Jan/Feb 2021

Since the pandemic, I wanted to make a point to focus on new music through out the year. Since March 2020, I compiled a isolation mix on Spotify which highlighted what I was listening to in lock down.

I want to highlight some of my new favorite music picks of 2021 so far with continuous updates once a week through to the end of the year!

1.

Aaron Frazer — Over You

The Brooklyn-based, Baltimore-raised songwriter first came into the international spotlight as multi-instrumentalist and co-lead singer for Durand Jones & The Indications.

2.

Psymon Spine - Jumprope

Brooklyn psych pop and dance collective Psymon Spine have released their new single, “Jumprope,” premiering with Under the Radar. Some might recognize Sabine Holler and Noah Prebish from the dream pop band Barrie, but Psymon Spine takes a different route, instead exploring experimental pop and dance through lush beds of synths and idiosyncratic dance grooves.

The fact that Psymon Spine created a whole video based on my fav game of all time Animal Crossing gives them mad props in my book.

3.

IS TROPICAL - Hummingbird

Is Tropical are a band from London, England, with members as of 2014 including Simon Milner, Gary Barber, Dominic Apa, and Kirstie Fleck. Formed in 2009 as a trio, in June 2011 they released their debut album Native To, preceded by the single “The Greeks”, which had a music video win awards at the UK Music Video Awards. Their first EP, Flags, was released in 2013, while their second album I’m Leaving was released that year on the label Kitsuné. They have toured with bands such as Egyptian Hip Hop, and are signed to Axis Mundi Records in New York. The band’s third album, Black Anything, was released in March 2016.

4.

Fever Dream - Faerie
